St Patrick's College is a Catholic day and boarding school for boys, founded by the Christian Brothers in 1893. Since that time it has served the people of Ballarat, Western Victoria and beyond. While the Christian Brothers no longer maintain a residence on site St Patrick’s seeks to remain an authentic Catholic school in the Edmund Rice tradition.

The SPC Mission Statement reads, in part, "True to the Catholic tradition the College attempts to promote the development of the whole person through the integration of religious faith with living ... we seek to bring about the vision of an authentic Catholic community".

St Patrick’s College prides itself on an identity formed from being a quality school, a Ballarat school, a Catholic school, a boys’ school, a boarding school and an Edmund Rice school which since 1893 has served the needs of young men and boys from the breadth of the socio-economic spectrum. .

St Patrick’s College recognises the traditional owners of the area, the Wathaurong people.
