The Charter for Catholic Schools in the Edmund Rice Tradition was proclaimed by the EREA Council on 22 August 2011, following several years of reflection and wide consultation. Over the last five years schools have been both inspired and challenged by the Charter to develop a culture that is authentic to the example of Blessed Edmund and the vision of Jesus.

This Charter identifies four touchstones authentically linked with the charism of Blessed Edmund Rice. It underpins the ministry of our schools and educational endeavours. The Touchstones help us set our direction and define our goals as, following Blessed Edmund’s example, we continue to reflect on and seek to make the Gospel a living reality in our communities.

Following consultation, the EREA Council has decided that, in this renewal of the Charter, the four Touchstones will remain. Our renewal process will discern how we might wish to re- imagine their definition and expression as we celebrate the 10th year of EREA.

Throughout 2016, the different groups involved in Edmund Rice education will participate in reviewing and renewing the Charter. It is envisaged that a renewed Charter will be proclaimed by the Council of Edmund Rice Education Australia around the Feast of Blessed Edmund Rice in May 2017.

The feedback period for the Charter Renewal process has now closed
